About Us
First established in 2001 on Playa Amadores just outside Puerto Rico, Sunset Divers enjoyed 5 years on the beach, and still treasure the custom of the divers we trained, divers on holiday who turned into regular visitors and friends, and even the non-divers who just kept coming back for the sandwiches and Guinness (you know who you are!). I came to the island to enjoy my diving and to give divers and students a safe, personal, and enjoyable experience, and I have always insisted that the instructors who worked for us shared the same philosophy. This has meant that regulars and friends visit us frequently. The financial crisis is having its affect on Gran Canaria's visitor numbers, bars, hotels, restaurants and all activities, including diving, are feeling the pinch. It seems that when things get tight, your holiday is the first thing to be put on hold, so to keep offering the personal attention and keep prices to a minimum we have decided to temporarily close our shop in Playa del Ingles. You will of course be picked up and dropped off free of charge, so the only changes you will notice are cheaper prices and you don't even have to wash your gear. Until things change and get busier both Marcel and myself have decided to work on a club basis, meaning we will only dive or teach with a maximum of two divers or students each, giving the safe, personal attention we always did. Prices have been dropped and if you book a series of dives or multiple courses, further discounts are available. The sandwiches are as good as ever and, if you fancy a Guinness après dive, no problem, so just mail or call and we can book you in. See you soon! DiversAre you an experienced diver who wants a change from of diving in big groups? Tired of having to cut your dive short because one of the group is low on air? Are you a beginner, who needs experience but feels awkward in a big group? You need experience and advice, but don't want to stand out in the crowd? We take one, two or maximum of three divers per instructor, and try to make up groups of divers with the similar experience. This makes the dive days safer and more enjoyable. Clubs & GroupsIt is impossible for a dive centre that usually takes on for five to ten divers at a time to suddenly have to cater for a party of 25 or 30 divers. Equipment, air and transport etc are a logistical nightmare if a dive centre is unprepeared. We prefer to team up with other quality diving centres to provide you with a discounted package, with no strain on anyone's of resources. Please email me for details. Important info for diversDue to recent changes in the law regarding diving, not only in Spain, but in most of Europe, each individual diver must carry their licence, insurance, and an up-to-date medical certificate. These are checked periodically by the police. "More rules and regulations" I hear you say.Well don't panic, the licence you should have anyway. If not, and if you were certified by PADI, we can check your certification on line and apply for a duplicate if necessary. ![]() Dive insurance is always a good idea, and we are partners with one of the largest and most comprehensive brokers, Dive Assure, with daily insurance costing only 6 euros. This can be sorted out online on the day you are diving, and there are great deals for yearly insurance. Finally, a medical certificate. This is simply a case of downloading the pre-prepared medical form and taking it to your doctor. Unfortunately you will not be able to dive without these. It can all be done here, but may take time from your holiday, so better to do so beforehand. PADI dive courses
All our diving courses are P.A.D.I. accredited courses, always make sure your license is a PADI license, the only one recognised everywhere! The Home Study Open Water or Rescue Diver courses we offer have been a great success, and are worth considering if you want to spend your holiday actually diving. If you prefer to dive while you learn, then that is no problem either, our conventional courses are just right for you. A 4-day open water or rescue course will then only take up two days of your holiday!
Online Discount Dive GearBecause of the tax laws in the Canaries we are able to sell top quality brands of diving equipment at a massively reduced price compared to the rest of Europe, often up to 50% off the list price. Check out the online shop! If you order before you arrive we can have your equipment ready and waiting for you here, or even with the postage costs you can still make great savings. We have great offers on Cressi, Scuba pro, Seac sub, Mares and Aqua Lung and Speedo swimwear.
